What is Montessori?
Dr. Maria Montessori developed an educational approach and philosophy that a child learns best in an environment that supports each individual's unique development. Through her observations of children she came to the understanding that children have natural learning tendencies that unflods in a "prepared environment." The teacher is a guide to each child's learning to provide to knowledge of the materials and act as a catalyst between the child and the environment. The prepared environment contains specially designed materials that use all five senses. These materials invite the children to engage in learning activities at their own pace, making discoveries with the materials they use, cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and the love of learning.
